Does your home have a name? We’ve never named ours until now.
There are many reasons why we named our house and I would be lying if I said one of those reasons wasn’t for social media – Instagram to be exact. Hashtags are a thing. People create social media hashtags for important things in their lives like weddings, vacations and yes, their homes.
At first when I had the idea of sharing our building process with all of you, I was trying to wrap my head around giving our house a name. After all, only huge mansions like homes on a Street of Dreams Tour, on TV Soap Operas and those homes behind big gates had names. But our house, was this a silly idea?
Why not name our home?
I name my cars … like my sporty, red, Lola … because she is a show girl or Bridget (who was before Lola) because she was my super technical office assistant – she even came with her own assistant and in my mind had a British accent. Why not name our home?
We named our home because I wanted an easy way for people to search for the latest happenings with the build and design of our home – a name that would be easy to remember.
The search began.
That is where the name search began … and the comparison in Instagram to see if that hashtag name was already taken. We also knew we didn’t want a pretentious name – we aren’t pretentious people. We wanted a name that would be like another member of our family.
One name kept rising to the top.
Like everything in our lives lately, everything seems to fall in place at the right time for the right reasons. Some might say it is luck, but to me I think it is the universe steering us in a direction. And after listing many names on paper and searching online seeing if the hashtag was available. one name kept rising to the top and giving a comfortable feeling like home – “Our Emerald Nest” or “Emmy” for short.
Why Our Emerald Nest?
Why Our Emerald Nest? I just mentioned the direction the universe leads us. Just like the movie “Fools Rush In” Matthew Perry’s character was told “There Are Signs Everywhere, you just have to look for them”, and for our homes name, the signs were there. The biggest one was the name of our house plan was The Emerald. But, for me emeralds have a big meaning – it is my birthstone and in my family you received a birthstone ring on your 16th birthday to represent you are growing up. And this home to me was my grown up dream that was coming to life – a home where every inch of it felt like home from the minute we walked in the model right down to picking out every surface finish of the house (it’s jewelry).
So friends and family meet Our Emerald Nest … you can call her Emmy for short.
